It feels like Winter has come early today with a brisk southerly breeze blowing the shop signs down the mall. The elevated flow on the Tongariro is still with us and making the fishing a bit of a challenge but Rainbows and the odd Brown Trout have been encountered while swinging sinking lines. At 58.2cumec swinging Woolly Buggers and Rabbit flys between the gusts might be the best option today.
As we progress through Autumn it's now the time to begin checking on our winter gear, old cracked floating lines should be replaced, connections and loops can be tidied up or replaced. Joins in sinking lines can be looked at for fatigue and respliced if required. There is nothing as frustrating as hitting the river and poor gear has to be contended with. Drop into the shop or online to check out our range of sinking lines and floating lines.
If heading to the Tongariro this week please be mindful of the Rahui in place between the main road bridge and upstream to the Major Jones Swing Bridge. It is expected to be in effect until the morning of Monday the 27th March.
