It's a sunny day here in Turangi and not a cloud in sight! Lake Taupo is looking majestic surrounded by the white capped mountains of National Park. There was a heavy frost from Waitahanui to Hatepe this morning, the ground was white either side of the road - so please be aware of black ice on the road if you're driving over in the early hours. The fishing going on at the moment is just unreal and we are so fortunate to have this continue for the next few months. I fished with our own Tim McCarthy and AB during my days off and both days were mighty cold especially in the wind - so make sure you're well insulated if you're heading over! Caddis nymphs in various sizes worked, the key was their weight and a 4mm tungsten beaded nymph worked both days and has been my go to all year round in the Central Plateau.
Lately we have noticed an influx of youth anglers coming through the shop which is great to see and all the more with a fish in hand!
Young Louie at age 11 is just starting out on his fly fishing journey and had an absolute blast on the river and is said to be "hooked for life"
Good stuff Louie! Keep at it!
