Weather: Fine, apart from some patchy morning and evening cloud. Light winds.
Tongariro River Flow: 27.7 cumecs (m³/s)
The week has been shaping up nicely, with good numbers of fish being caught throughout the region. Egg patterns are still producing consistent results, especially in the mornings. As the sun comes out, smaller natural patterns like Copper Johns, Hare & Coppers, and Flashback nymphs have been working well, particularly in clearer water. The fish are staying active, and conditions are looking promising heading into the weekend.
River levels are holding at moderate flows following recent rainfall, with good colour across most systems. The Tongariro is running especially well, providing plenty of fishable water. Lake Taupo remains clear and fishable, with cooler water temperatures keeping trout active in shallower zones.
Egg patterns continue to be reliable, especially during early morning sessions and in deeper pools. As the sun gets higher, switching to smaller natural nymphs has been the key to continued success. Patterns like Copper Johns, Hare & Coppers, and Flashback nymphs have all been producing well—particularly on brighter days when fish are more selective.
Niamh was out with some friends and had one of the best days on the river she has had all season.
