She was super cold in Turangi this morning, I had a solid frost on the outside of the windscreen and the inside from leaving my damp waders in the back.
The winds have got up through the day to be quite strong at times but this is a time I enjoy hitting the river and working on various casts.
The river conditions look beautiful with the flow sitting around 23.8 cumecs and there were lots of fish around. Rodney the Rainbow follows me all the way down the pool and I got a quick clip of him somewhere near the middlle of today’s video in the red link above
.I went for a lunch time swing with the Spey Rod and I broke one of my own cardinal rules which turned what should of been an excellent session with the number of fish I saw into a frustrating session. I grabbed the nearest rod to the door at home when I shot back and I was running a sink tip that was sinking far too fast for the flow and conditions, far too many times I was getting hung up on the bottom where I should of been swinging into hungry Tongariro Rainbows.
Make sure you do put the thought into being setup properly for the conditions and maximize your results.
